The Pakistani drama industry has been successful in terms of TRPs and YouTube views, but the content has faced criticism in recent years. Many dramas revolve around love triangles and sisters’ rivalry, and there is a prevalent toxic element in around 99% of the scripts. Despite discussions about this issue, little has been done to address it.
Actor Ali Safina, who has been part of the industry for years, shed light on the reality of many drama writers during an appearance on the show Fuchsia. He revealed that many writers work in teams and simply put their names on different scripts after reworking old stories. Additionally, dramas are often being shot when 7-8 episodes are already in progress, leaving writers with insufficient time and resources to develop a cohesive script. Safina also highlighted the issue of low pay for writers, which can lead to subpar scripts. He noted that some writers have produced good dramas for Green Entertainment because they were paid well.
Safina’s remarks shed light on the challenges faced by writers in the Pakistani drama industry, including lack of creative freedom, time constraints, and financial limitations. These factors contribute to the repetitive and toxic content that has become prevalent in recent years.
