The use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the opening credits of the Marvel superhero series Secret Invasion has caused anxiety and anger within Hollywood. The show, which airs on Disney+, is a spy thriller centered around shape-shifting aliens and stars Samuel L Jackson. The opening credits feature an abstract sequence that combines green-hued urban landscapes, spaceships, and shadowy human characters that gradually transform into the reptilian extra-terrestrial “Skrulls” of the series.

Director Ali Selim revealed in an interview that AI, along with human illustrators, was used to generate the opening credits. The intention behind using AI was to create a sense of foreboding and mystery. By incorporating AI, the sequence aimed to capture the essence of the shape-shifting Skrull world and provoke questions about identity and the unknown.
However, the use of AI in the production of the credits has sparked concerns among Hollywood professionals, particularly during a time when television and film writers are already facing uncertainties about their future. The combination of AI technology and human creativity raises questions about the role of AI in creative processes and its potential impact on employment opportunities within the industry.
