The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has invited Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar and actor Ram Charan to join as new members.
The AMPAS has released a list of 398 new members from around the world, including Johar and Charan. The list also includes other Indian celebrities, such as Jr NTR, Mani Ratnam, MM Keeravani, Chandrabose, Siddharth Roy Kapur, and Chaitanya Tamhane.
AMPAS President Janet Yang and CEO Bill Kramer said that they are proud to welcome these artists and professionals into the Academy’s membership.
“They all represent extraordinary global talent across cinematic disciplines, and have made a vital impact on the arts and sciences of motion pictures and on movie fans worldwide,” Yang said.
The new members have been selected based on their professional qualifications and their commitment to representation and equity.
Johar is a Bollywood filmmaker, producer, and television personality. He is the founder of the production company Dharma Productions, which has produced some of the biggest hits in Hindi cinema. Johar has also directed several films, including “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai,” “Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham,” and “My Name Is Khan.” He is known for his lavish productions and his ability to bring together big stars.
Charan is an Indian actor who works in Telugu cinema. He is the son of actor Chiranjeevi and Surekha. Charan made his acting debut in the 2007 film “Chirutha,” which was a critical and commercial success. He has since starred in several other successful films, including “Rangasthalam,” “RRR,” and “Acharya.” Charan is known for his action sequences and his ability to emote.
The addition of Johar and Charan to the AMPAS membership is a significant step in the organization’s efforts to increase diversity and representation. It is also a recognition of the growing global influence of Indian cinema.
