Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) president Nasser al-Khelaifi has made it clear that superstar forward Kylian Mbappe must sign a new contract if he wants to continue playing for the club next season. Al-Khelaifi emphasized that PSG cannot afford to let the world’s best player leave for free.
Mbappe, whose current contract expires next year, had previously stated that he would not extend his contract but indicated his desire to stay for one more season. However, if PSG fails to sell him in the current transfer window, they risk losing him for nothing when his contract expires.
Mbappe joined PSG from Monaco in 2017 for a record-breaking fee of €180 million ($196 million) and has since established himself as one of the world’s top players. He played a pivotal role in France’s journey to the 2022 World Cup final and helped PSG secure their 11th French title.
Last year, Mbappe was expected to move to Real Madrid when his previous contract was nearing its end, but he ultimately signed a new deal with PSG, which included an option for a third season until 2025. However, Mbappe has made it clear that he will not exercise that option and intends to honor his current contract.
While PSG’s new coach, Luis Enrique, was evasive about Mbappe’s future during his unveiling, he later stated that he is counting on all the players who are under contract, implying that he expects Mbappe to remain for the upcoming season.
The situation surrounding Mbappe’s contract renewal remains uncertain, but PSG is determined to secure his future by insisting on a new deal or selling him in the current transfer window to avoid losing him on a free transfer next year.
