Kylian Mbappe has denied making a request to move to Real Madrid and has expressed his happiness to continue playing for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the upcoming season. While he remains committed to PSG for now, Mbappe has confirmed that he will not extend his contract with the club, which is set to expire in 2024.
PSG faces the risk of losing Mbappe on a free transfer in 2024 if they cannot reach a new agreement. Starting from January, he will be able to sign a pre-contract agreement with any other club if he decides not to extend his deal with PSG.
In an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, Mbappe clarified that he did not request to be sold or to join Real Madrid. He simply stated his intention not to activate the additional year in his contract. While there have been no discussions about a renewal with PSG, he is content to remain with the club for the upcoming season.
However, if Mbappe stays until the end of the 2023-24 season, PSG will not be able to recoup any portion of the significant fee they paid to acquire him from AS Monaco in 2017.
With several attacking players leaving Real Madrid, including Karim Benzema, the club may now turn their attention to Mbappe as they rebuild their squad. The 24-year-old, who has been the top scorer in Ligue 1 for the past five seasons, presents an enticing option for the Spanish club.
