The study published in the journal Science suggests that taurine, an amino acid found in meat, may have potential anti-aging effects and promote a longer and healthier life when consumed in sufficient amounts through supplements. The study observed this effect in various animal species and speculates that it might also occur in humans.
According to the study’s co-author, Vijay Yadav, the decline in taurine levels as individuals age is significant in mice, monkeys, and humans, but the reason behind this decline is still unknown.
In the research conducted on mice and monkeys, the supplementation of taurine improved the health of middle-aged animals. Mice that received the supplements experienced benefits such as reduced weight gain, improved immune function, decreased insulin resistance, enhanced bone density, improved muscle strength, and a 10% longer lifespan.
While these findings are promising, it’s important to note that more research is needed to fully understand the potential effects of taurine supplementation on human health and longevity.
